Immediate danger
Call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or serious danger to the public.
This may include:
- a building, wall or scaffolding at immediate risk of collapse
- roof tiles, masonry or glass actively falling
- serious structural damage caused by fire, explosion, severe weather or a vehicle
- someone trapped or at risk because of structural failure
- a dangerous structure in a public area that requires urgent crowd control or a road closure
Report a non-urgent concern
Email building.control@colchester.gov.uk if a structure is deteriorating but does not pose an immediate danger.
Include:
- the full location
- a description of the concern
- photographs, where it is safe to take them
- your contact details
- details of when you first noticed the problem
Non-urgent concerns may include:
- cracks or movement in a wall
- a leaning wall or fence
- loose debris that is not currently falling
- minor structural damage that may become dangerous
Problems on roads or pavements
Report dangers affecting roads or pavements to Essex Highways.
This may include:
- unsafe or deteriorating scaffolding
- debris or structural hazards affecting a road or pavement
Report a road or pavement hazard to Essex Highways.
Unsafe construction sites
Report unsafe construction sites or working practices to the Health and Safety Executive.
