A Regularisation application is used for building work that has already been carried out without building control approval.
Only the local authority can process a Regularisation application.
Documents you need to provide
Submit as much information as possible about the work, including:
- plans and drawings
- construction notes
- invoices
- photographs taken during the work
- structural or thermal calculations
- product and installation certificates
Inspections and remedial work
We may need you to:
- open up parts of the building
- dig trial holes
- expose foundations or structural elements
- provide more information or calculations
- alter or remove work that does not comply
You are responsible for the cost of any opening-up or remedial work.
Duty-holder information
If the work started on or after 1 October 2023, you must provide the required duty-holder details and a signed New Application Declaration.

When you will receive a certificate
We will only issue a Regularisation Certificate when we are satisfied that the building work complies with the relevant building regulations.
Apply as early as possible. We cannot prioritise an application because of a property sale or another external deadline.
We will email you with details of the fee and a link to pay by card through the Council Payment Service.
