Due to more high temperatures expected next week, Colchester City Council will start recycling and rubbish collections at 6am, one hour earlier than the usual 7am, from Tuesday 7 July for the rest of the week.
Temperatures across the city are set to be around 30 degrees centigrade this week, and the council took the decision for the safety of its collection crews. These high temperatures make working conditions difficult for crews and this early start gives them more time to work in the cooler part of the day.
This means we’re asking you to place your recycling, rubbish, garden waste, glass and food waste bins out by 6am on your collection day.
From 13 July onwards, the council aims to resume collections starting at 7am.
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Waste, said: “We don't take these decisions lightly and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Our staff's wellbeing must be considered closely and keeping them safe is extremely important to us. We trust you will understand why the decision to start collections earlier has been made.”
Further updates will be shared on the council’s website.
