Don’t get caught out: check your new bin day now

For many households, collection days and weeks are changing. Taking a quick look at your collection calendar now means you’ll know exactly what to put out, and when – helping you avoid missed collections as the new service begins

Residents across Colchester are being urged to check their new recycling and rubbish collection calendars this week, now live online ahead of service changes starting on 1 June 2026.

You might have a new bin collection day

For many households, collection days and weeks are changing. Taking a quick look at your collection calendar now means you’ll know exactly what to put out, and when – helping you avoid missed collections as the new service begins.

Easier to recycle more at home

From 1 June, recycling will become simpler, with most everyday materials – including plastics, paper and card, tins and cans – able to go in one place. If you’ve received your new recycling bin, you can put these items loose together inside it. If you haven’t got a new bin, you can still mix these materials in your clear recycling bags. Glass stays separate in a box. Alongside these changes, collection routes are being updated, so checking your calendar now is the easiest way to stay on track and avoid any missed collections.

Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods and Leisure, said: “We know people have busy lives, so this is a simple but important step – take a minute now to check your new collection day. Doing so will help make sure everything runs smoothly from the start and that no one is caught out during the change.”

Your personalised calendar is quick to access by entering your postcode on our website here. This change excludes flats using communal bins. Calendars will not show any collection data for the week commencing 25 May. For this week only (25–29 May), residents should continue to put their bins out on their usual collection day. New collection days will begin from 1 June 2026.
