Colchester's Journey of Connectivity

Colchester is on a journey of connectivity as we partner with Essex County Council to weave a network of walking and cycling improvements linking Colchester’s key areas and the city centre. A new east-west corridor will start in the city centre near the Colchester war memorial, providing a safe path to the University of Essex, the future Tendring Colchester Border Garden Community, and Greenstead/Hythe areas.

Progress is already in motion, with the city centre segment due to start early next year. Planned improvements to the city’s cycling and walking network will see approximately £6 million of investment, and the vision has been developed in collaboration with businesses and community groups, ensuring an enhanced pathway that:

  • Relieves the strain on the road network
  • Enhances access to the city centre
  • Encourages active travel in a safe environment
