The council’s budget is approved by full council each February and outlines funding, Council Tax levels, future financial planning, and capital investment.

Summary budget

The Local Government Act 2000 gives the full council responsibility for approving the policy framework and the budget. Each year, the budget is sent to the February council meeting for its approval after consideration at the cabinet meeting in January/February.

The budget report includes the:  

  • overall general revenue budget and funding
  • Council Tax level - Colchester's element
  • medium term financial forecast (MTFF)
  • capital programme
  • prudential indicators and Treasury Management
  • Strategy and Annual Investment Strategy (appendix N)
