Today marks a milestone of resilience, recovery, and renewed hope as the Leisure World Active Wellbeing Programme celebrates its first anniversary.
Designed for health professionals to refer patients needing specialist support, the programme bridges the gap between medical advice and physical vitality. From hydrotherapy to tailored exercise programme, the results have been nothing short of life changing.
Real stories, real transformation
The heart of the programme lies in the voices of those who found their strength and happiness again. These are not just statistics, they are neighbours reclaiming their lives. Phil found relief from long-standing knee pain through the structured sessions, enjoying an environment where he felt supported rather than judged. Steven reflects on his 12-week journey with immense pride, noting both his physical changes and the self-assurance he now carries into the next stage of his fitness.
The heart of the journey
But perhaps the most beautiful outcome wasn't found in a gym plan. Deep friendships were forged in the quiet moments between exercises. Participants found solace in sharing their highs and lows, cheering one another on through every struggle, and building a support system that ensured no one ever felt alone.
Our greatest reward: Why we do and What we do
Behind every success story are the specialists guiding the way. For Chrissy and Donna, the first anniversary is a deeply emotional occasion.
“To us, this has never been just a job.” says Christina, our Level 4 Health & Wellbeing Manager. "We see people walk through these doors on day one feeling hesitant, often struggling just to move comfortably. Seeing them graduated 12 weeks later in a better shape, with a smile on their face and a new lease on life, is incredibly satisfying.”
Donna, our Level 4 Health & Wellbeing Practitioner adds: “The transformation isn't just physical. We watch their confidence grow as their mental health improves. It’s about people, not just exercises.”
To support the programme’s continued growth, we are delighted to welcome two new members to the team. Lindsey joins as a Health & Wellbeing Practitioner, bringing her expertise to the front line of patient care, while Claire takes on a vital administrative role to ensure every participant's journey is smooth and supported.
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods, and Leisure at Colchester City Council, said: “The success of programme is a testament to the power of community-led health. Seeing our residents regain their independence and hearing how they have moved from a place of pain to a place of friendship and vitality is deeply moving. We are incredibly proud of the specialist team at Leisure World for creating a space where everyone, regardless of their starting point, is welcomed with open arms and expert care. This isn't just about fitness, it’s about giving people their lives back.”
