Have your say on Stanway’s new wheeled sports facility

Help us shape plans for a new outdoor wheeled sports facility planned for Stanway Country Park!

A wide, sunny landscape view of a country park with open grassy fields, a winding footpath, scattered trees and shrubs. A modern building sits to the right, with low hills and woodland in the background under a clear sky.

Colchester City Council is asking residents to share their views on a new outdoor wheeled sports facility planned for Stanway Country Park near the Lakelands Centre. Your feedback will help make sure the design works for people of all ages and abilities.

The project aims to create a welcoming, accessible and inclusive area that supports a wide range of wheeled sports. Early ideas include everything from cycling and roller skating to pump track riding and skate-style activities, but the final design will be shaped by residents’ views.

What do we need from you?

We want to understand what types of wheeled sports activities you and your family would most enjoy at Stanway Country Park. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, a scooter rider, a skateboarder, or simply someone who enjoys active outdoor spaces, your insight will help us identify which facilities would bring the most benefit to the community.

The short survey asks you to share your preferences and ideas, including anything we may not have considered. You can also let us know how likely you are to use the new facility once it is built.

Why your views matter

This is a significant investment in Stanway’s outdoor recreation offer. By taking part in the consultation, you can help ensure the new space is inclusive, family friendly, and suitable for both beginners and more experienced users.

Cllr Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods and Leisure, said:
“We’re committed to creating high quality, accessible spaces that support healthy, active lifestyles for people of all ages. This consultation is a chance for residents to directly influence how this funding is used and help shape a facility that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of Stanway’s growing community. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to share their views.”

How to take part

Residents can take part by completing the online survey here: forms.office.com/e/zgvtCp2J4K

It takes only a few minutes, and your responses will directly inform the next stage of design work.

The consultation will run for approximately four weeks. Once complete, feedback will be carefully reviewed and used to shape proposals before any construction begins.
