Greenstead comes together for a day of fun, food and community this summer

Greenstead’s inviting everyone across the estate to come and be part of something special as the Greenstead Community Fun Day returns on Saturday 1 August, bringing Magnolia Fields to life with performances, food and activities for all ages.

A large mural painted on a purple brick wall showing two white winged hands touching knuckles in front of a pink heart. Silhouettes of people, trees and a city skyline run along the bottom of the artwork, with a paved walkway in the foreground and a cloudy sky above.

From 12pm to 4pm, the space will be transformed into a vibrant celebration of everything that makes Greenstead such a strong and welcoming community. With free entry for all, this is a day designed for families, friends and neighbours to relax, connect and enjoy what’s on offer right on their doorstep.

There’s something for everyone…

There’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout the afternoon. From the thrill of axe throwing and the fun of a bouncy castle, to live performances and face painting, the day is all about getting involved and trying something new. Local business stalls will showcase talent from across the community, while a community barbecue and a lively jollof rice competition promise plenty of flavour and friendly competition.

There will also be a free health check offer, giving people the chance to look after their wellbeing while enjoying the day.

Cllr David King, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Communities and Public Protection, said: “We know how much moments like this matter. They’re an opportunity to meet new people, support local businesses and simply enjoy being outside together. It’s been amazing to see the community wanting to get involved. Last year, 22 stalls helped make the first Greenstead Community Fun Day a success - and this year, at least 30 stalls have already expressed interest.”

The event is being delivered as part of the Heart of Greenstead project, funded by the UK Government. The project is investing in the area through improvements such as expanding the community centre, improved library services and strengthening GP and pharmacy services - all with the aim of supporting local pride, creating opportunities and bringing people together. The fun day is a reflection of that ambition, shaped by and for the community itself.

Expanding on the bigger picture, Simon Blaxill, Chair of We Are Colchester, said: “The Heart of Greenstead project is about making a real difference to everyday life in Greenstead. Whether that’s better facilities, improved services or more opportunities for people to come together. Events like this are a big part of that, helping to build confidence and community spirit.”

Come along, bring your friends and family, and be part of a day that celebrates Greenstead at its best.
