Families across Colchester are being encouraged to make the most of the summer holidays with a fantastic programme of activities at Leisure World and Colchester Sports Park, including brand-new climbing taster sessions at Leisure World Tiptree.
From splashing around in the Leisure Pool's famous waves and rapids to trying out new sports, cycling activities and climbing challenges, there are plenty of opportunities for children and adults to stay active, have fun and create lasting memories throughout the school break.
The popular Leisure Pool offers a fun-filled day out for families, featuring its two flumes, exciting rapids and dedicated family water play areas. Young swimmers currently enrolled in Leisure World swimming lessons can also benefit from free swimming during public swim sessions in the Fitness Pool, helping them continue to practise their skills outside of lessons.
Meanwhile, at Colchester Sports Park, families can make use of the free Learn to Ride cycling area designed to help children gain confidence and develop their cycling abilities in a safe environment, take on the BMX Pump Track or, for the more experienced, enjoy the 1-mile cycle track.
This summer also sees the launch of special climbing taster sessions at Leisure World Tiptree, giving participants the chance to experience indoor climbing in a fun and supportive environment. Taking place on Saturday 15 August, with additional sessions on Sunday 16 August, the sessions are designed for both beginners and those looking to develop their skills.
Two-hour taster sessions will run at:
10.00am–12.00pm (ages 8–15)
12.30pm–2.30pm (ages 8–15)
3.00pm–5.00pm (ages 16+)
Places are limited to just eight participants per session to ensure everyone receives plenty of individual support from instructors.
To encourage more people to give climbing a try, the sessions are being offered at a reduced promotional rate of £8 for children and £10 for adults. Parents and guardians must remain on site during junior sessions, and all participants will be required to complete a climbing disclaimer before taking part.
For those looking to enjoy sport together, a variety of pay and play activities are available across the centres, including pickleball, squash, football, badminton, tennis, climbing and tots soft play.
Councillor Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhood Services and Leisure, said: “The summer holidays are a wonderful opportunity for families to spend quality time together, stay active and try something new. Leisure World and Colchester Sports Park offer a fantastic range of affordable activities for all ages, from enjoying the waves and rapids in our Leisure Pool to learning to ride a bike, taking part in one of our many sports sessions or trying our new climbing taster sessions. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for a fun-filled summer.”
Leisure World and Colchester Sports Park continue to play an important role in supporting healthy and active lifestyles across the city, offering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in sport and physical activity.
