Let’s get Colchester moving! Beat the Street returns from 11 March to 22 April 2026. It’s the perfect chance for the whole community to get moving, explore our city, and feel the benefits of being active together.
What is Beat the Street?
Beat the Street is a fun way of encouraging everyone in the community to get out and get moving by turning the city into a real-life physical activity competition. Designed by Dr William Bird, it aims to encourage people to move more, helps promote better mental health, reduces congestion and pollution, and helps people connect with their local community. Win prizes for your team simply by walking, cycling, running, scooting, and wheeling around the city!
How to play?
It’s free to take part and open to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background! All you need is a free Beat the Street card (or the app for those aged 13+), making it ideal for people who haven’t previously been active. If you are already active, it will help you go one step further and reveal new parts of your local community. Players can find their nearest Beat Box on the map, tap it, and then find another within an hour to score points.

By making movement fun and accessible, we hope to inspire residents to think about active travel for shorter journeys and making physical activity part of everyday life.”
