Colchester Museums Development Foundation (CMDF) is proud to take part in Giving Tuesday on Tuesday 2 December 2025 – a global celebration of generosity and community spirit.
Organised by the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, Giving Tuesday invites people everywhere to reflect, show kindness, and give back in ways that matter to them. Whether it’s donating to a cause, volunteering time, or simply helping a neighbour, every act of generosity counts.
This year, CMDF is spotlighting its popular "Adopt an Object" scheme – a creative way to support Colchester’s rich heritage while giving a truly memorable gift.
From ancient gold jewellery to a flying penis amulet, a burnt date from the Boudican Revolt, and even a Norman garderobe (toilet!), Colchester Museums' curators have selected some of the most fascinating and rare items from the city’s collections for symbolic adoption. Each object tells a unique story about Colchester’s past and offers a personal connection to local history.
