We set the amount a taxi (Hackney Carriage) can charge for a journey, which depends on the type of vehicle you are using, the number of passengers and the time of day.
Our current taxi tariffs:

- Hackney Carriage Tariff - 5 to 8 passengers (PDF, 927KB)
- Hackney Carriage Tariff - 4 passengers estate vehicles (PDF, 849KB)
The meter should not be running before the journey starts and customers should check the meter on entering the vehicle to ensure the meter shows the correct tariff rate.
The meter should only be reset at the end of the journey after the customer has checked the metered fare and paid. On request, the driver must give customers a receipt.
