Hiring out horses

Information on running a riding stable or hiring out horses for financial gain, read the guidance thoroughly before applying.

Under the LAIA Regulations 2018, a licence is required when money is paid to ride a horse that belongs to someone else. This includes riding stables and liveries where horses are hired out or loaned for financial gain.

All aspects of the stable will be assessed, including:

  • horse welfare
  • suitability of tack
  • indoor and outdoor arenas (menage)
  • grazing fields
  • property maintenance
  • safety equipment

An annual inspection by an equine vet is mandatory.
