Some of our roles may require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

If a DBS check is required, you will also have to register with the DBS update service.

The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate. This is an annual subscription and you will be responsible for ensuring this is maintained.

The Disclosure and Barring Service is a non-departmental public body of the Home Office.

The DBS enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially involving children or vulnerable adults, and provides wider access to criminal record information through its disclosure service for England and Wales.

We have a strict policy on the handling of DBS certificate information. We also have a written policy on recruiting ex-offenders.

Where a DBS check is required, we are legally unable to make an offer of employment until the check has been cleared.

Public Sector Network

As part of their role, some of our employees will have access to official and sensitive information through the Public Sector Network (PSN).

All users must meet the criteria and complete checks as set out in the national Baseline Personal Security Standard (BPSS).

If you are applying for a job that involves working with official or sensitive data using the PSN, this will be indicated in the application pack. In this case, you will be required to give us certain information about yourself on the equality and diversity monitoring form (for example, date of birth and unspent convictions).

As part of the disclosure process, we must release this information to a third-party supplier to obtain an external electronic ID validation check. This process will be undertaken with strict regard to our privacy policy.

Legally we are unable to make an offer of employment to the successful candidate/s for such jobs until this check has been cleared.
