Tackling inequalities
Our progress on tackling inequalities
Our overall equality objective is making Colchester an even better place to live and supporting those who need most help.
We review and publish progress on achieving our vision to tackle inequalities by:
- developing and publishing Equality Impact Assessments for Council decisions
- reviewing and publishing a progress report in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion annually
- having clear accountability for both Councillors and Officers
Monitoring of action
The Council's monitoring of action includes:
- All committee reports to include a section setting out the equality and diversity implications of decisions.
- The Governance and Audit Committee considering an annual update report on Equality and Safeguarding - the 2019/20 report was approved at the 24 November 2020 meeting.
- The Council extending the reporting scope to ensure impact assessments cover the wider implications for those living in areas of deprivation or with reduced life opportunities. This will be based on objective tests which the Council will develop, taking independent advice.
The Strategic Plan 2020-23
The Strategic Plan 2020-23 was adopted by Full Council on 21 October 2020. It is one of the core statutory elements of the Council's Policy framework, as set out in Article 4 of the Council's Constitution.
