Castle park

The main entrance to Castle Park is located at the east end of Colchester High Street next to the Castle.

Castle Park has had its own byelaws since it opened in 1892. A simplified version of these local laws are on this page.

We now have changing places facilities at Castle Park, located behind the Castle Park Café.

These trails will allow you to explore Castle Park on your own or with friends and family to better understand the history and wildlife of this special urban park in the heart of Colchester.

Daily specials are always available but picnic boxes are made to order.

The Friends of Castle Park (FoCP) were originally a small group of 12 people brought together by Colchester City Council in 2003.

Castle Park was opened 20 October 1892 by the Lord Mayor of London.

Castle Park (25 hectares - 60 acres), situated in the grounds of Colchester Castle and the Hollytrees Mansion, is divided into an upper and lower park by the Roman town wall of Colchester.
