To support our residents and businesses we’ve outlined a bold and ambitious vision supported by an investment package. This includes projects addressing climate change, fostering economic growth, promoting health, improving homes, and enhancing the city’s appeal. Consultations with over 2,000 residents guided the update of the City Centre Masterplan, reflecting their priorities. Key projects include:

  • Almost £40 million through government grants to deliver regeneration projects which will help to tackle inequalities across the city whilst regenerating the city centre. Including St Nicholas Square, Holy Trinity Square, Balkerne Gate, improved and new walking and cycling routes, creating a new digital hub on the site on Queen Street, bringing heritage assets back into public use such as Jumbo, and much more.
  • Work has begun on a remarkable £6.25 million Digital Working Hub at the site of the former bus garage in Queen Street to create a new collaborative space for digital artists, entrepreneurs, and tech creatives.
  • Delivering the largest investment in Greenstead for a generation including an upgraded community centre, a new doctor’s surgery and pharmacy, a modern library, housing office, a pre-school, a community café and flexible community space.
  • £1.36 million through the Shared Prosperity Fund which is supporting organisations across the city to support businesses, communities and health including community supermarkets, domestic abuse victim support, educational programmes, and others.
  • £500,000 through the Rural England Prosperity Fund to support rural businesses to develop their businesses
and benefit the wider local economy. It also includes a programme to help local rural community projects.
