Original Banksy works arrive in Colchester as landmark exhibition opens tomorrow

Unlike many exhibitions celebrating Banksy's work, every piece in Out of Line is either an original artwork or an artist-certified print

The countdown to a landmark Banksy exhibition has begun, with two major original artworks arriving at The Minories today ahead of tomorrow's opening.

The arrival of the large-scale artworks comes just one day before the opening of Out of Line: Banksy and the Art of Dissent, a major exhibition featuring 28 original Banksy works alongside pieces by more than 20 leading figures from the global street art and urban contemporary art movement. The exhibition opens to the public tomorrow and runs until 28 February 2027.

Photographs taken today show the carefully managed delivery of the artworks, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the complex operation involved in bringing internationally recognised works of art to the heart of Colchester.

Unlike many exhibitions celebrating Banksy's work, every piece in Out of Line is either an original artwork or an artist-certified print. The exhibition is expected to attract visitors from across Essex and beyond, giving local people the chance to see authentic Banksy works and other internationally significant street art without travelling to London.

Bringing world-class art to Colchester
Colchester City Council has supported the exhibition as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening the city's cultural offer and supporting The Minories as an important cultural venue.

The exhibition forms part of the council's wider ambition to bring high-quality cultural experiences to Colchester, attract visitors to the city centre and support local businesses, while ensuring residents can access nationally significant exhibitions on their doorstep.

Cllr Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Environment at Colchester City Council, said: "It's not every day that original Banksy artworks arrive in Colchester, so today feels like a significant moment for the city. Tomorrow, people will be able to walk through the doors of The Minories and see an exhibition that would not look out of place in one of the country's major cultural centres. We're proud to have supported The Minories in bringing this exhibition here, giving residents the chance to experience something extraordinary while attracting visitors and boosting the city's cultural offer."
