Parents across Colchester are being encouraged to swap screens for sport, fresh air and family fun this October half term as Leisure World and Colchester Sports Park launch a "Half Term Without the Screens" challenge.
With children spending more time than ever on phones, tablets and gaming consoles, Leisure World is inviting families to disconnect from devices and reconnect through a range of fun and active experiences throughout the school break.
- 9.30am to 11.00am for children aged 8 to 15
- 11.00am to 12.30pm for adults aged 16+
And for those inevitable autumn days when the weather is less than perfect, Colchester Sport's Park popular Soft Play sessions offer plenty of indoor fun, allowing younger children to explore and play for hours. Alternatively, the teenagers can hit one of four gyms across the city and burn off some energy or families can take a dip in the fitness pool at Leisure World or use the indoor courts to improve their stamina.
Residents are also encouraged to follow Leisure World and Colchester Sports Park on social media and take part in three fun half-term challenges:
- Screen Time Swap Challenge - swap screen time for active time.
- Learn Something New Challenge - try a new activity or skill.
- Halloween Active Challenge - add a spooky twist to your half-term adventures.
People will be encouraged to take part and share their activities on social media.
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods and Leisure, said: "October half term is the perfect opportunity for families to spend quality time together away from screens and technology. We're fortunate to have such a wide range of activities available across Leisure World and Colchester Sports Park. Whether it's cycling, football, tennis, soft play, swimming or simply trying something new, we're encouraging families to get active, have fun and create some lasting memories this half term."
While the Leisure Pool remains closed as part of a major refurbishment project, residents are being reminded that there is still a wide range of activities available across the city, ensuring families can stay active and entertained throughout the holidays.
