Colchester Crematorium to hold two Carol Services for the first time

As part of the service, attendees will have the chance to light a candle in memory of loved ones and hang a message on the Christmas tree

Christmas Carol Service 2025 held at Colchester Cemetery & Crematorium

Following the growing popularity of the annual event, Colchester Crematorium will hold two Christmas Carol Services this December, giving more people the opportunity to attend, remember loved ones, and spend time reflecting during the festive season.

Popular carol service returns with two sessions
The two services will take place in the Crematorium Chapel on Wednesday, 2 December, with the first session start at 2pm and the second one start at 5pm.

Open to everyone, the services feature traditional Christmas carols, heartfelt poems and readings.  As part of the service, attendees will have the chance to light a candle in memory of loved ones, to hang a message on the Christmas tree, creating a peaceful and welcoming space for remembrance, reflection and hope. Refreshments will be served after each service. To book, visit Christmas Carol Service – Colchester Cemetery & Crematorium.

The services are free to attend, although donations are welcomed. This year, all donations will go to Colchester Blanketeers, a volunteer-led community group whose members knit and crochet blankets and comfort items for patients and their families, helping to provide warmth, comfort and support when it is needed most.

Cllr David King, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Communities and Public Protection, said: "Our carol service is a cherished tradition that brings people together in a spirit of remembrance, comfort and community.  As the service has become increasingly popular, we have decided to hold two services for the first time ever, allowing more residents to come together and support one another at this special time of year. The team and I look forward to sharing this special time of remembrance and reflection with you.”
